Mid-terms are almost here!

September 4th, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I can’t believe that we’re almost half way through the first quarter!  The students have been very busy and are quickly moving towards their first unit tests.  Please check out the pages for each of my three French classes.

Now that things are beginning to pick up, we will begin tutoring every Tuesday from 2-3pm.  This will begin on September 18th.  Come prepared with questions!

French Club will begin next week on the 9th.  This will be our first meeting and we have over 60 students who have joined!  On the 9th we will plan out our year events.  We will also begin to discuss the fundraiser we conduct in February.  Some things we are thinking about are: going out to dinner, learning to play Boules, a French version of bowling, after school cheese tastings, going out to dinner and making French related crafts.

Just a reminder, please remember that cell phones are not allowed at school.  If you bring them, you must leave them, turned off, in your locker!  This is a Shelby County policy and will be strictly enforced!

French 3

September 4th, 2008 · No Comments · French 3

We have had a busy four weeks.  The girls (yes the class is all girls!) are doing well and have been writing and reading a lot.  They are currently working on a storyboard to summarize a short story they read in French.  We are also working on reading passages to prepare them for the National French Exam in January.

By the end of this week, we will be moving into a unit discussing personal appearance and the concept of beauty.  During  the unit, they will create a “What Not to Wear” skit complete with fashion faux pas.  We will also begin to read our first story of some length.  We will read a Fairy Tale in French that is about 25 pages long.
Expect that we will have vocabulary quizzes beginning next week as well as some basic grammar quizzes.  Once you get your Power School information, please check out your daughter’s grades.  Everyone is doing great so far!

I am enjoying working with the class!  Please let me know if you have any questions.

French 2

September 4th, 2008 · No Comments · French 2

Things are going very well in French 2.  We have been very busy and I wanted to update you on where we’ve been and what to expect in the next few weeks.

In the last few weeks, students have reviewed verb conjugation, how to talk about themselves and their families, general vocabulary from French 1, and general grammar rules.  Last week, they wrote a poem in French and interviewed one another to get relevant, personal information.  All of their accents are really improving!

We will be beginning our 1st unit this week.  So, please expect that your children will have a vocabulary quizzes next week.  While the grammatical patterns are familiar, they will be expected to master much more vocabulary this year.  It’s a good idea for them to review the new words a little bit each night.  Otherwise, they will feel overwhelmed when it is time for tests and quizzes.  With this new unit, they will put together a family album with captions in French.  Please help them find some pictures for this project.  I look forward to seeing all of their photos!

Midterms are quickly coming up.  I will talk to each student individually to let them know their grade and what, if anything, they should do to improve.  Please be on the lookout for your PowerSchool information.  It is always very beneficial to your child when you keep up with their progress.

Things are going very well in French 1.  We have been very busy and I wanted to update you on where we’ve been and what to expect in the next few weeks.

In the last few weeks, students have learned to introduce themselves in both formal and informal French.  They’ve learned to count upto 60, say their ages, introduce people, and are beginning to learn about French grammar and verb conjugation.  Additionally, we’ve discussed French geography and some cultural points about greetings.

We will be finishing our 1st unit this week.  So, please expect that your children will have a unit test next week.  They will have listening, speaking and writing components on the test.  This will be broken up into 2 days of testing.
